Addiction Prevention

The Rotary Clubs of Champaign, Champaign West, CU Sunrise, and Savoy are proud to announce a collaborative effort in combating addiction and overdose within the community. Following insightful presentations in March by Larry Kenemore from the Rotary Action Group (RAG) for Addiction Prevention, a Train the Trainers Workshop has been scheduled for the administration of Naloxone on Thursday, August 8, from 7:00-8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, 1602 S. Prospect Avenue in Savoy.

Naloxone Training August 8, 2024

Larry Kenemore and Chief Steve Ahles will be conducting this pivotal workshop aimed at equipping community members with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively teach others to respond to opioid overdoses using Naloxone. The workshop represents the next step in Project SMART Addiction Prevention, a comprehensive initiative to tackle addiction and promote recovery in Champaign County.

Call for Trainers

We are actively seeking dedicated individuals from area Rotary clubs, as well as community members to serve as Trainers for this vital project. Once the first core group of trainers is trained, they will play a crucial role in leading training sessions for community members on the administration of Naloxone throughout the year.

Key Requirements for Trainers:

  • Strong teaching and coaching abilities

  • Comfort with performing hands-on demonstrations, including getting down on the floor

  • Ideal candidates are police officers, firefighters, EMTs, teachers, and staff who work at youth organizations such as the Stephens Family YMCA, Y on the Fly, Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, and staff that work in schools and libraries.

  • Commitment to training community members periodically throughout the year.
